For so many reasons now people are waking up to the value of a plant-based diet. In my book, I called dairy the fourth “sturdy leg” of the Punjabi table. But there are ways to swap out dairy. For example, in the delicious recipe for Aloo Mirch Dudhwali--Potatoes and Peppers in Milk (p.101) that I made yesterday, instead of a can condensed milk I could use coconut milk and a little coconut flour for body.    Auntie Surindera and Uncle Gurmit have been our role models and companions on this road called “Life”. I met them in Patiala, Punjab where they had made a home. Our eldest child, “Pauli" and their youngest child, “Dicki” were close in age and had a great time together. Now as Uncle and Auntie enter their 91st year, I wished to remember the beautiful time we enjoyed in Patiala and honor their great contribution to our lives and those of so many others.

Here is a video taken several years ago as an entry (3 minute limit) to the first Food Network Star contest. Our daughter, Sheila cajoled me into trying out even though I had been home only a week after back surgery. She knew her mom needed a project -- and she was right! It entertained me.
